Thanks to everyone who attended and especially those who ran games. We had 40+ people there last Saturday. Everyone had a good time and there were plenty of games to play.

"CHICAGO EXPRESS: RAILROADING GAME"

Game Master: Phillip Shea
Description: Executives of the B&O,C&O, Penn Central, and NY Central railroads vie (that is stab each other in the back) to be the first to get their steel rails westward to Chicago in the late 1800's. The sharpest RR execs seek maximum return on their investments in this high-stakes business game lasting about an hour. (Maybe multiple games in the morning session if people are interested.)

World War II, 28mm Skirmish, Disposable Heroes Rules.

Elements of the 101st Airborne Division are tasked to take a critical road junction on the Carentan Peninisula. A 2nd SS Panzer Division unit has other plans for the American paratroopers.

American Civil War, 6mm, using the brand new FIRE & FURY REGIMENTAL RULES.

Game Master: Patrick Mullins
Rebel generals Finegan and Colquitt gather a makeshift force to do battle with Union General Seymour heading to Tallahassee from Jacksonviller. They meet just east of Lake City at a whistle-stop on a rickety railroad. Can the graybacks keep Florida in the Confederacy? Can the USCT 54th Massachusetts influence the outcome?

Two key "resistance fighters" have been captured by Skynet Terminator security and taken to the Tampa Metro Re-Education Faciltiy. The Resistance needs to lead a dangerous rescue mission to free the captives from Skynet. The Players will maneuver to the best of their abilities their Resistance Teams and resources carefully so as not to confront the Teminator Forces of Skynet.

On 6 December, 1941, a US PBY scout plane spots unidentified ships 300 miles NW of the Hawaiian Islands heading SE. Admiral Kimmel sends out some ships to intercept and gather intelligence. Subsequent US scout messages ID Japanese carrier based planes armed with torpedoes on SE course, too. What in the blue blazes is going on?

At a German airdrome, a morning flight of raiders is being prepped. Before the German planes get airborne, a flight of British, American, and French fighters and bombers are spotted inbound. The Germans scramble in desperation to intercept and scatter the Allied flight before it can do any damage.

In a masterful display of arms, the leading elements of Kampfgruppe Peiper, 1st SS Panzer Division has seized control of Trois Ponts and its vital bridges. Now KG Peiper is heading for Liege and the fuel dumps there. Elements of the US 82nd Airborne Division have taken up blocking positions at a small but vital crossroads. Will the paratroopers be able to hold out long enough for reinforcements to arrive or will the Germans breakthrough to Liege?

Frederick the Great, leading his Prussian army into Silesia, finds his way obstructed by the advancing Austrian army. Both sides are vying for control of a disputed piece of territory. The Suncoast Skirmishers will host its second annual Games of August Gamesday on Saturday, August 21st at St. Catherines Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall in Temple Terrace, Florida. The doors will open at 9AM and there will be two full sessions of gaming from 9AM-1PM and 2PM-6PM

The Suncoast Skirmishers are now starting to plan for our next Games Day called "The Games of August II". We are now planning to hold it once again at St. Catherines Church in Temple Terrace.
We are looking at several dates in August and hopefully will have a date confirmed within a week or so.

Spring Breakthrough Is Coming May 15th!!!

In honor of Armed Forces Day, May 15th, Suncoast Skirmishers presents the 2nd Annual Spring Breakthrough Gamesday.
It will be held from 9AM-7PM at St. Catherines Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall in Temple Terrace, Florida.
As always, the admission and parking are free. Lunch will be available at the hall.
Donations for our host, St. Catherines will be appreciated.

Heading South!

South of the border that is. Don't worry nobody is moving but what I am getting into is the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). I've got a variety of figures being painted up including several US units. For all of you horse lovers out there though be prepared for some disappointment. My cavalry units are all dismounted. Considering that cavalry comprised at least 50% of the armies that were involved using them dismounted is for me the only economical way to do things.
The other major consideration is what rules to use. I have several sets that would work: the Sword and the Flame/Sword to Adventure, Colonial Adventures, and for smaller skirmishes Savage Worlds Showdown.
I will be trying out both Colonial Adventures and Showdown in the weeks to come and will be posting the results.

WINTER OFFENSIVE A GREAT SUCCESS!!!

In spite of unseasonably cold weather(for Florida), over 40 gamers showed up at the University of Tampa Library yesterday for Suncoast Skirmishers Winter Offensive. There were a variety of games played both RPG's and Historical Miniatures. Dale Marcum and Curt Dees, two of the original Suncoast Skirmishers were there. Dale was wearing a button from the first Suncoast Skirmishers event that was held back in 1981. Boy, did that bring back some memories! Along with Dale and Curt, there was Joe Brimer who really did a lot to get Skirmishes started as well as myself. I hope it will be possible to someday see Joe down here at one of our Gamedays running one of the games that he has become famous for.
Speaking of next time. Be sure and circle Saturday, May 15th on your calendars. It will be our second annual Armed Forces Day Spring Breakout! Keep following this blog for further details.

For making the Games of August a stunning success. We had over 30 people attend and play. A special thanks goes out to the GM's who brought and ran games. We had miniature battles from the 15th Century up through the Seminole Wars and on to Normandy. The RPG community was well represented too. We look forward to seeing all of you again on January 9th, 2010 for the Winter Offensive.

This Saturday, August 8th, is our quarterly Games Day at the University of Tampa Library. We will have six miniatures games as well as rpg's. I plan on being there at 8AM to help with the set up but the doors don't open officially until 10. This is gonna be fun.

Well, I figured since I had registered the name "Suncoast Skirmishes" to use for our events that it would only make sense to simply change the club's name to reflect this. So hopefully this will be the last time this change will be made.

The Guns of August will sound at the University of Tampa Library on Saturday, August 8th. The theme this time will be battles fought in the month of August. I'm planning on running a WWI skirmish game(Belgians vs. Germans). If anyone else has any ideas and such jump on in.

I'm Still Here!!!

Despite some health issues, I'm still here. The Suncoast Garrison chugs along. I'm not sure when our next event will be but Dave Glenn is putting on a gameday at the Armed Forces Museum in Largo on the 27th of June. I am planning on being there and running a game. Hope everyone else can make it.

UT Gameday AAR

We had about 20 people in attendance. The majority were RPG players but we had really fine miniature games as well.
Andy Thurlow ran a Disposable Heroes game. The scenario was well written and designed. It was an amalgamation of the Battles of St. Mere-Eglise and Contentin in Normandy 1944. The scenery and the troops were both magnificent. I commanded the American Paratroopers with John "More Smoke" Predgen as my second in command. Joe Oberfrank and Tom(I can't remember his last name right now) commanded the German Fallschirmjagers. It was a hard fought battle but alas for the "Band of Brothers" we came out on the short end of the stick. I made a tactical blunder at the start of the game and we couldn't quite recover from it. Oh well, there's always next time.
Rob Rowen put on an excellent "Fire and Fury" in 15mm. It was the first day of Gettysburg. I didn't play in that one but everyone was having a good time.
For the RPG players, Dominick Trascitti had a table full of people going with Pathfinder. He's a great guy with a great group of players. Hopefully, he'll be back for the next one.
Speaking of the next one, yes there will most definitely be a next one.

The Armed Forces Gameday was great. We had about about 20 people show up. The facilites were excellent as well as the company. Many thanks to Art Bagley for all of his work to help bring this about. We will be doing this again.

Armed Forces Gameday!!!!!

Suncoast Garrison will be hosting a Gameday at the Kelce-McDonald Library at the University of Tampa on Saturday, May 16th from 10AM to 6PM. Since it is Armed Forces Day our theme will be "America's Battles". Admission and Parking are free so bring your games.
Hopefully, this will be the start of a regular gathering at the Library.
